Toyota launches Hilux Custom Builds for workhorse owners seeking special solutions

One of the customisation options through the HCB programme

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has brought the customisation of its Hilux workhorse range in-house through its newly launched Hilux Custom Builds (HCB) programme.

The programme eliminates Hilux customers’ traditional reliance on aftermarket fitments, as it provides them with a factory-backed alternative.

Each customisation project begins with a dedicated flat-deck Hilux 2.4 GD-6 (4x2 or 4x4) base unit, which is assembled at the Toyota plant, in Durban.

Then, working within Toyota Motor Corporation’s Conversion Vehicle Partner Programme framework, the local arm of the Japanese car maker makes use of a range of configurations, “all with a focus on structural integrity, compatibility and long-term durability”.

Customers can select from conversions such as steel or aluminium dropsides, cargo rails with optional dropsides, full or field-technician canopies or drybox solutions for secure equipment storage.

TSAM says these options cater to business owners who “rely on practical, reliable workhorses”, whether in the agriculture, mining, construction, field service or logistics sectors.

The bakkie maker says the HCB programme brings professionally engineered and purpose-built bakkie conversions into the Toyota stable, as each conversion is developed in-house, tested to Toyota standards and delivered through the national dealer network.

This means that conversions can be ordered from the dealer, along with the vehicle, which is then delivered as a complete, ready-to-work unit.

All builds are also evaluated under South African conditions to ensure they meet the requisite quality, reliability and performance expectations.

Every conversion is also supported by a three-year or 100 000 km warranty, which mirrors that of the base vehicle.
